RIVALRY WITH RAT-TITUDE;
CAROLINA'S WARREN OUTDUELS DUKE'S ANDERSON

CHAPEL HILL, NC—In a pitching matchup of River Rats teammates, North Carolina starter Adam Warren outdueled Duke starter Jonathan Anderson as the Tarheels beat the Blue Devils 7-4 in the second game of a doubleheader Saturday afternoon.  Warren, a sophomore for second-ranked Carolina, won his seventh straight game of the season and eighth straight overall, allowing two runs on three hits over five innings.  Anderson did not figure in the decision, leaving the mound in the fourth inning after allowing two runs on five hits.  Anderson continued as the Blue Devils' designated hitter, going 2-for-3 in the game and 4-for-6 during the doubleheader with two runs scored.

Adam Warren is now 7-0 on the year and 8-0 in his college career.  Warren's seven wins are tied for best on the team and his 2.13 ERA and .234 opponents batting average are both second-best among the team's starting pitchers.  He has 34 strikeouts in 38 innings pitched and has allowed fewer extra-base hits than any other Carolina starter (four doubles and one home run in seven starts).  With the River Rats in 2006, Warren was 2-3 with a 3.65 ERA and 39 strikeouts in 37 innings.  Warren is a graduate of New Bern High School and was the New Bern Sun Journal's 2004 Area Baseball Player of the Year.

Senior Jonathan Anderson, a pitcher and outfielder for the Blue Devils, is 2-1 on the mound this year a 3.64 ERA.  With four hits Saturday, Anderson improved his season batting average to .331.  Anderson starred for the River Rats in 2005 and 2006, and is the team's career leader in games played (85), games started (79), runs (37), and stolen bases (19).
